Welcome to 1770 Headland and Lookout
Upon arriving at 1770, make sure to check out the headland and lookout. Swapping your surfboard for sneakers allows you the opportunity to get a greater feel for this beautiful landscape and to truly appreciate all it has to offer. Wander through windswept tussock grasslands and coastal woodlands to the top of the headland. Here a lookout offers breathtaking vistas of long, golden beaches colliding with aquamarine ocean stretching towards the horizon. Listen to the lulling rhythm of white waves crashing into the rocks below or feel the final warmth of the setting sun as you witness the magnificence of a 1770 sunset.
During the winter months, migrating whales may be spotted from one of several lookouts accessible from the Headland car park. Nesting turtles are also known to frequent this area of coastline during the warmer months. Dolphins are often spotted playing in the clear waters below as white-bellied sea eagles soar in the skies overhead.
Even if you’re not typically a hiker, this easy, 30-minute, family-friendly walk means you don’t even have to raise a sweat to get a sense of the best that 1770 and surrounds has to offer.
