For the more intrepid adventurer, the region’s four national parks provide excellent opportunities to take a walk on the wild side with four-wheel driving, wilderness camping and hiking trails awaiting your discovery.

Here the climate is best described as perfect, with more than 280 days of sunshine each year. This is the essence of Agnes Water and Town of 1770 – untouched, exclusive and pure!

The Town of 1770 is considered the birthplace of Queensland and is named after the famous landing of Captain James Cook and his crew from the ‘Endeavour’ who came ashore there on 24 May 1770.

Watch history come to life as the town commemorates this prominent event, by hosting the annual Captain Cook 1770 Festival. Popular with locals and visitors alike, the festival includes a foreshore re-enactment, followed by two full days of entertainment at the SES Grounds.

Developed in partnership with traditional custodians of the land, the Gooreng Gooreng people, the festival is designed to celebrate Cook’s legacy of exploration, while also encouraging the sharing of culture and the promotion of unity.
