  • A Wander Through Broadbeach Precinct

The sophisticated suburbs of Broadbeach and neighbouring Kurrawa exude a chic, urban coastal charm that’s hard to resist!

This centrally located and ever evolving beachside precinct is just a 10 minute-drive (or quick tram-ride) from the bustling streets of Surfers Paradise, yet has a distinctly different vibe. Broadbeach balances a relaxed atmosphere with sophisticated accommodation, stylish shopping precincts and a flourishing foodie scene. Take your pick from fine dining feasts, casual alfresco cafes, stylish bars, and a vibrant nightlife. Broadbeach is also a thriving events mecca for everything from live international acts to big business conferences. It hosts a thrilling line-up of annual events including crowd-pleasers such as Groundwater Country Music Festival, Blues on Broadbeach and the Crafted Beer and Cider Festival. This is also one of the coast’s more accessible suburbs, with good public transport networks and accessible facilities within easy reach.

Begin your journey of discovery with a leisurely wander along the golden beaches of Broadbeach (to the north) and Kurrawa (to the south). Then cross Kurrawa Park and Old Burleigh Road to enter Broadbeach Mall at the southern end of Victoria Avenue. This lively pedestrian promenade is peppered with sea-themed sculptures and roving street artists, and framed by alfresco dining options, with everything from gourmet delis to bistros and brasseries. Adjoining the southern side of the mall is The Oasis, offering a range of boutique and brand name retail outlets. Or venture slightly inland to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre to indulge in some serious retail therapy.

A further 10-minute walk across the canal from the mall you’ll discover the glitz and glamour of The Star Precinct, including the endless entertainment of a 24-hour casino.

With its suave yet cruisy charisma, abundant natural beauty and first-class facilities, Broadbeach is a captivating choice for your next Gold Coast getaway.

Kurrawa Beach and Surf Life Saving Club

A stunning shoreline, relaxed ambience and accessible amenities make Kurrawa Beach an idyllic piece of paradise everyone can enjoy.

Soak in the sunshine as you while the day away playing in the waves or relaxing on the pristine beach. Lay out a towel and feel your tension melt away with the soothing warmth of the soft white sand, accompanied by the calming lullaby of the rhythmic waves. Or perhaps take a refreshing dip in the glistening sea. Feel the cool caress of the water against your legs and allow the subdued energy of the ocean to invigorate your senses. Listen for the laughter of children splashing in the shallows or playing in the park, or the shrill cries of seagulls fishing for dinner. With its regular rolling waves, Kurrawa is also a popular spot for surfers, who often head out at daybreak, when the rising sun paints the ocean in soft shades of orange, pink and purple.

Kurrawa Surf Club is one of the most popular on the Gold Coast. The Surf Lifesaving movement began in the area in 1958, inspired by a vision to promote beach and surf safety within the community. The Clubhouse itself features a bar and bistro overlooking uninterrupted 230-degree views of the ocean and golden coastline. The upstairs bistro is open daily for lunch and dinner and is accessible via a lift. Sit and enjoy succulent steaks, the freshest seafood, a selection of international dishes or a surf club classic - the chicken parmy. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available. Enjoy a cold beer or fruity cocktail on the outdoor deck, where cooling sea breezes carry the pleasant salty scent of the ocean. Feel good knowing your meal is helping to support the community and local volunteer surf lifesavers, who patrol the beach from September to May.

    Kurrawa and Pratten Parks

Grassy parklands hug the sprawling sandy coastline, offering a shady, peaceful retreat for people of all abilities.

Paula Stafford Park is tucked neatly between Kurrawa Surf Club and Kurrawa Park, with a boardwalk and viewing platform that brings you close to the action of the popular beach volleyball courts. Extending further north is Kurrawa Park, with its large open grassy spaces set alongside a stunning esplanade. This premium beachside park is a great place to relax and enjoy quality time with family and friends, or an alfresco feast at sheltered picnic and barbecue areas dotted throughout the parklands. Visit in September to quench your thirst for Australia’s best brews at the Crafted Beer and Cider Festival. This beautiful beachside location is also the setting for the Gold Coast’s longest running Art and Craft Market, held on the first and third Sundays of each month.

To the south of the Kurrawa Surf Club lies picturesque Pratten Park. This popular recreation reserve offers two playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment, excellent picnic and barbecue facilities, and a large off-leash dog area at the southern end of the park.

The Gold Coast’s first All Abilities playground is located at the northern end of the park. This inclusive play area is designed to allow all children to experience fun, interactive, and challenging play, and features a huge hill slide, flying fox and swing, suitable for up to five children, or a fully harnessed seat for those who need extra support. The playground is fully fenced, making supervision easier. Further south, a second playground is sure to keep kids entertained, with a pedal-powered monorail, slippery slides, and a pirate ship for sea-inspired adventures. There’s plenty of room to run off excess energy, kicking a ball or throwing a frisbee, while making the most of the Coast’s pleasant year-round climate.
