Welcome to Brisbane Visitor Information and Booking Centre
The Brisbane Visitor Information and Booking Centre is located at the heart of Brisbane City, inside the historic, heritage-listed Regent Theatre on the Queen Street Mall.
Originally opened in 1929, the Regent Theatre is one of Brisbane’s iconic buildings. Its architecture reflects a blend of Spanish Gothic and Art Deco styles. The facade features ornate detailing, terra cotta tiles and intricate masonry. Inside, the theatre once boasted a grand auditorium with lavish decorations, including chandeliers, plush seating, and elaborate plasterwork. A redevelopment in the late 1970s saw the grand auditorium converted into four cinemas, when it was rebranded as the Hoyts Entertainment Centre. Though it has seen various uses and renovations over the years, the Regent Theatre remains a cherished cultural landmark, capturing the elegance and grandeur of early-20th-century theatres, with marble staircases and stained-glass windows still gracing the lobby. It has been the home of the Brisbane Visitor Information and Booking Centre since 2014.
Inside the Centre
As you enter, you’ll feel enveloped by a sense of the theatre’s grand history, with its atmosphere of sophistication and opulence. High above, the ceiling is adorned with intricate plasterwork, paintings and magnificent chandeliers that cast a soft, warm, golden light, creating a serene environment. The walls are richly decorated with ornate carvings with brass and gold accents, adding to the timeless decor. The seating is plush and comfortable, covered in a rich, velvety fabric, enfolding you in a cosy embrace as you take your seat.
In the Neighbourhood
There’s a wealth of attractions within walking distance from the Centre, including the Brisbane Arcade, Brisbane City Hall and Clock Tower, the newly built Queens Wharf, the City Botanical Gardens, Roma Street and Southbank Parklands, the Queensland Museum and Gallery of Modern Art. Roma Street Parklands features a sensory garden with fragrant plants, textured pathways and wind chimes, with guided tours available. The Gallery of Modern Art offers tactile tours where participants can experience artworks through touch. A little further away, the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium offers auditory-enhanced shows with rich narratives and soundscapes. Interactive exhibits include tactile models of planets and spaces. The world’s oldest and largest koala sanctuary, the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, is located about 15 kilometres southwest of the Centre, and offers a fabulous opportunity to interact with Australian wildlife such as koalas and kangaroos.
