Welcome to Bundaberg Rum Distillery
Upon arriving at Australia’s largest craft distillery, the scent of cane country wafts in the air. Breathing in the sweet tang of molasses, the hustle and bustle of a working sugar mill and sound of a cane train arriving with a freshly cut batch of sugarcane in tow, you know you’ve arrived at the birthplace of the iconic Bundaberg Rum Distillery. Even if the amber liquid is not one of your go-to tipples, with taste sensations in the line up like Banana Toffee Liqueur (think Banoffee pie), Salted Caramel, Spiced Rum that will have your taste buds picking up on the underlining notes of vanilla and, an incredible range of special release rums - there really is something for everyone.
Begin your rum journey
Begin your experience with a journey through the Bundaberg Rum Distillery Museum where towering oak barrels that once held 10,000 litres of rum stand tall and house the stories of past master blenders and the history of how Bundaberg Rum came to be. Discover the difference between Rum’s raw and distilled forms as you pass by the textured oak barrels with their interactive scent experience buttons, before immersing yourself on a tour through the heart of the distillery with a Bundaberg Rum Experience guide. Let the tang of fresh molasses greet your taste buds with a paddle pop tasting from the distillery's very own Molasses well that holds up to 5 million litres, before following your guide who will clearly explain the process that goes into producing world-class rum. Become a Rum connoisseur for a day with a Blend Your Own Experience that is a separate tour to the Visitor Experience. Here you will be provided with the skills and rum to blend your own bottle of the liquid gold that will have your senses filled with rum distilled from port, sherry, bourbon and other exclusive Bundaberg Rum barrels.
History of Bundaberg Rum Distillery
Bundaberg Rum is in the beating heart of Bundaberg sugar cane country, and is ideally positioned to access the freshest molasses which is a by-product of cane production. The molasses is carted over to the distillery to create this special iconic rum that is proud to call Bundaberg home. For 125 years the distillery has been an integral part of the community. The company’s passion for the Bundaberg region and its local people shines through in every bottle, as it is matured right here onsite. This explains why Bundaberg is so often lovingly referred to as the ‘rum city.’ By promoting sustainable agriculture and sourcing local ingredients, the Bundaberg Rum Distillery enables local tourism and the economy to grow and thrive (all while tasting pretty darn good).
