Welcome to a Cafe Grounded in Nature
Nestled among lush gardens, The Garden Mill Cafe is a nature-inspired haven where families and food lovers can unwind. With a strong commitment to sustainability and local hospitality talent, this family- and dog-friendly cafe serves fresh, locally sourced produce while offering an immersive, multisensory experience. Imagine the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the earthy scent of blooming flowers, the bucolic sounds of baby goats and chickens, and the sight of sun-dappled greenery shading the outdoor seating areas.
The cafe welcomes guests with its inviting and homely spaces – wooden tables, warm lighting and a relaxed, community-focused ambience. Whether you’re enjoying a meal made from the freshest local ingredients or simply soaking in the tranquil atmosphere over a barista-made coffee, every moment at The Garden Mill Cafe is designed to be a feast for the senses.
A Multisensory Experience that’s More than Just Dining
At The Garden Mill Cafe, dining is just the beginning. Guests can explore the beautifully landscaped gardens, interact with friendly resident goats and guinea pigs or relax on the grassy picnic areas watching chickens forage for food. Families can enjoy seasonal twilight markets and gourmet pizza nights, making each visit unique and memorable.
Visiting the cafe is a rich sensory experience. The sheltered alfresco dining area offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, with the rich, comforting aroma of locally roasted coffee beans mingling with the scent of freshly baked bread and slow-cooked meats. Feel the sturdy, natural wood furniture beneath your fingertips with a background hum of relaxed conversation, clinking cutlery and the occasional frothing of milk creating a welcoming soundscape.
Enjoy the comforting warmth of the sun filtering through the trees as you relax at an outdoor table setting or on a picnic blanket and reach out to touch the clipped grass – or slip off your shoes and feel it between your toes. The chirping of native birds, punctuated by the occasional cluck of a chicken or bleat of a goat, can’t help but create a deeper connection to nature.
Whether you decide to enjoy the delightful taste of local, seasonal, farm-to-table dishes inside or outside, you’re guaranteed a truly immersive outing.
A Cafe Committed to Sustainability and Community
Founded by passionate entrepreneurs Joey Caruana and Kirsty Rogers, The Garden Mill Cafe reflects a dedication to sustainability and community spirit. The inspiration behind the cafe was to celebrate the region’s young hospitality talent. The Garden Mill Cafe’s sisters – The Windmill Cafe and The Beach Mill Cafe – have long showcased local growers and producers, something The Garden Mill continues to celebrate, but here Joey and Kirsty wanted to focus on mentoring young people and giving their team the opportunity to “shine and grow”.
Every dish at The Garden Mill relies on local craftsmanship. You’ll taste tender cuts of meat from the award-winning Barritt’s Butchery, freshly baked bread from Walker Street Wholesale Bakery, and hand-picked produce from nearby farms like G'day Farms and Simply Organic. Sweet strawberry jam from Bargara Berries, just next door, perfectly complements the fluffy, house-made scones, while kombucha from Bundaberg Ferments offers a refreshing tang. Tea lovers can enjoy a cup brewed from Lonnie’s Chai Kitchen blends – fragrant, spiced and brewed to perfection. The menu changes with the seasons and the gardens, so every visit offers something new to explore.
Joey and Kirsty are also deeply passionate about creating their own circular economy, with composting, solar panels and more to come on their mission to become a zero-food-waste cafe. “We want to be a destination cafe with ethics and showcase our farmers as they’ve become our friends and family and we’re a part of that land too,” says Joey. “People are coming to our region for that wholesomeness and cafes like ours give them a taste of what life is like here.”
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing coffee break, a family-friendly outing or a taste of fresh, local flavours, this cafe offers a uniquely welcoming retreat – one where nature, food and community come together in perfect harmony.
