Located within the historic premises of Peppers Silo Hotel Launceston, Grain of the Silos restaurant, café and adjoining Woody’s Bar deliver exceptional dining and drinking experiences, forming an integral part of the property’s DNA. In close partnership with local makers and producers, the dedicated team at Grain of the Silos offer a carefully curated seasonal menu that is sophisticated yet approachable, delivering an authentic taste of Tasmania on every plate and in every glass.
Led by Food Director and celebrated personality Massimo Mele, the talented team create innovative dishes that capture the finest and freshest flavours of Tasmania, allowing guests to truly connect with the agricultural heart of this fertile island state.
Set within the historic repurposed barrels of former grain silos, the restaurant is decorated with earthy tones and bespoke wooden furnishings, creating an ambience of warmth and understated sophistication. Floor to ceiling windows open the space to vistas of the tranquil River Tamar and the entrance to Cataract Gorge in the distance. By day, natural light washes across the dining room, while dimmed lighting and table lanterns bring subdued style to evening meals.
Grain of the Silos restaurant and café are open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Woody’s Bar serves up your favourite tipples from afternoon until evening seven days a week.

Scouring this fertile island state from port to pasture, the dedicated team at Grain of the Silos are committed to delivering Tasmania’s freshest and best flavours straight to your plate.
Food Director and first-class celebrity chef Massimo Mele leads the team, with his unrelenting passion for showcasing Tasmania’s famously fresh, premium produce. Massimo has worked tirelessly to cultivate close and collaborative partnerships with the finest local producers. Together, this team of truly Tasmanian makers, producers, artisans and chefs ensure the ever-changing menu delivers seasonal, environmentally sustainable, and undeniably delicious feasts at every service.
From Cape Grim beef to Bruny Island cheese, to the creamiest Dutch potatoes and truffle treasures unearthed from nearby fields, the menu thoughtfully captures the essence of Tasmania’s freshest produce. Earthy flavours are complimented by the sweet saltiness of mussels, crayfish and briny oysters, showcasing the surrounding ocean’s abundant bounty.
The carefully curated menu is constantly evolving, driven by the freshest ingredients available in around eight culinary seasons, and ongoing creative inspiration. While the menu will change, one thing remains the same – the focus on showcasing Tasmania’s freshest and best. Ingredients remain as natural as possible, allowing the authentic quality and flavours to shine through.
Grain Café and Woody’s Bar
Grain of the Silos Café is the perfect place for a coffee fix or light snack to satisfy your cravings between meals. Featuring both indoor and outdoor dining areas, the café has a relaxed ambience that invites you to indulge in a freshly baked pastry while you soak in the sunshine, or a sweet treat to accompany your freshly brewed macchiato on a chilly winter’s morning. With an enticing menu of light refreshments and friendly service, Grain Café proves popular with a regular clientele of visitors and locals alike.
Woody’s Barrel Bar, adjoining the café and restaurant, continues the celebration of connection to produce and place. Along with international favourites, the bar’s extensive beverage list features some of the best locally produced beers, wines and spirits from around the island state. It pays proud homage to the hard work, skill, and dedication to excellence of local makers.
Sample some of Tasmania’s prized cool-climate wines, such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Celebrate with sensational sparkling from vineyards in the neighbouring Tamar Valley, or expand your horizons and discover something new, like rare varietals from Pooley Wines in the Coal River region. Grain of the Silos restaurant, café and Woody’s Bar are located with Peppers Silo Hotel, which is prominently positioned on the tranquil banks of the Tamar River, at 89-91 Lindsay Street, Launceston. While not accessible via public transport, they are located within 15 minutes’ walk of the CBD. Taxi and ride share services are readily available throughout the city centre.
Enter Peppers Silo Hotel through sliding glass doors and take the centrally located elevator to the first floor. On exiting the elevator, turn slightly to your right and continue past hotel reception to the hotel’s food and beverage precinct where you’ll find Grain of the Silos Restaurant, Café, and adjoining Woody’s Bar.
The restaurant, café and bar are all wheelchair accessible, with flat surfaces and wide doorways to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility aids. Accessible parking bays are available in the main parking area on the ground floor. Accessible bathrooms are located just outside the restaurant, between the dining area and hotel reception.
Registered assistance dogs, including those assisting people who are blind or have low vision, are warmly welcomed. The hotel also hosts a permanent pooch and former Guide Dog candidate, Archie.
