  • Welcome to Kooroomba

Just an hour’s drive from Brisbane will get you to Kooroomba Lavender Farm and Vineyard, a unique tourist destination nestled in the Fassifern Valley at Mount Alford near Boonah. Our award-winning cellar door, restaurant and lavender giftshop look out over six hectares of stunning lavender fields and sprawling vineyards. Revel in the sweet, subtle scent of lavender on the air as you meander through fragrant, pastel purple fields. Distant views of the Scenic Rim Mountains provide the perfect backdrop to relax in this natural, secluded setting.

Enjoy a carefully curated meal at our restaurant, unwind with a wine-tasting paddle at our cellar door, and browse through locally made products at our giftshop before strolling past the lavender fields. We also host private functions and events, including weddings in our unique open-air chapel. Constructed of natural timber, with a small white steeple, the lack of enclosed walls invites the outside in, making the most of the stunning surroundings.

There are endless opportunities to take that perfect photo, no matter the function or occasion. Imagine spectacular views of the surrounding natural environment with acres of vineyards, lavender fields and olive groves set against a backdrop of magnificent mountains.

    Setting the Scene

Kooroomba Lavender Farm is perched majestically on a lush, green, well tendered hillside overlooking the spectacular Scenic Rim Mountains, which form the beginning of the Great Dividing Range. As you approach by car, you’ll drive through a gorgeous valley that separates the vineyards and lavender fields from the mountains, passing a small dam and a few typical Queenslander-style farmhouses along the way. Cows and sheep graze lazily on the tall grass in the surrounding fields.

A gravel road leads you past rows of grapevines towards the restaurant and cellar door to the carpark. Guests may be dropped at the front door, or, from the carpark, a set of steps leads to a thoughtfully designed landscaped gravel pathway, fringed by tall, slender deciduous trees, including ginkgo trees, which are truly magnificent in autumn.

Inside the entrance of our architecturally designed, high-ceilinged main building, high stone arched walls frame the stunning view, opposite our display of wines available to taste. The building is constructed of stone, rough-sawn timber and willow stick ceiling, which contrasts with polished concrete, smooth plywood and stainless steel fittings and surfaces. The restaurant is truly breathtaking from both outside and within: huge glass windows artfully frame views of the vines, rows of lavender and the mountains beyond, while an outdoor seating terrace enjoys the same fabulous views. Together with the sky-high ceilings, the effect is to make you feel part of the magnificent landscape.

    About Our Lavender

At Kooroomba, we farm six types of French and Italian lavender which bloom almost all year round. To see the lavender at its very best plan your visit to Kooroomba during June, July or August. Most varieties of lavender plants take up to three years to mature fully from seed and we propagate up to 500 plants a week. Lavender plants are made up of several stems of tiny buds in a delicate shade of the palest purple, which are soft and slightly fuzzy to the touch. Once smelt, the heady scent of lavender is unique and unmistakable. Clear walking paths between neatly planted rows of lavender allow you to stroll through the lavender fields at your leisure, enjoying both the aroma and the views. We have the ideal soil conditions to grow healthy grapevines and lavender side by side, which makes for an aesthetically stunning combination.

Lavender offers several health benefits. Did you know that the Latin origin for the name for lavender is lavo which means ‘to wash’? Originally, lavender was often used to soothe burns, but nowadays, it has lots of uses: as an anti-inflammatory, as an essential oil to treat scalp conditions and for use in balms, salves, perfumes and cosmetics. It’s also used as a spice or condiment in cooking, adding a citrus note to pastas, salads, dressings and deserts, and is known to aid healthy digestion. The scent of lavender is calming and has been shown to help lower blood pressure and heartrate.

    Restaurant and Cellar Door

Stop for a leisurely morning tea, lunch or wine tasting at our five-star, award-winning cellar door and restaurant. The architecture of our dining room is an exquisite blend of rustic and contemporary. High ceilings, huge windows and exposed dark timber walls create a spacious, airy atmosphere, with the rough-sawn timber giving off a distinctive woody aroma. A spectacular wooden chandelier hangs elegantly from the ceiling in the centre of the room. Timber tables and chairs are neatly arranged and are adorned with crisp, white linen tablecloths.

The rich, diverse menu – devised by local executive chef Daniel Groneberg – showcases the freshest, local produce of the Scenic Rim region and features ingredients grown on the property. Dishes are decadent, beautifully presented in a modern Australian style and change with the seasons. Pair your meal with one of our local wines for the ultimate culinary experience. We serve several varieties of local Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc and a sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir. Can’t decide? Purchase a tasting paddle and let us do the work for you. Wine tasting is available from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 AM.

Or why not grab a picnic basket full of a selection of cheeses, cured meats, vegetables, daily baked treats and homemade sourdough bread with cultured butter, and lay a blanket down and enjoy a leisurely afternoon in the lavender fields, olive groves or vineyard?

    Lavender Giftshop

In the main foyer is our giftshop, where you can explore our exclusive and reasonably priced range of lavender products. Everything sold here is made from the lavender grown on our property. Find local, high-quality keepsakes you won’t find anywhere else: unique treasures like lavender-scented teddy bears, fragrance bags, tea and lavender-scented timber wax. Take your time breathing in the subtle aroma of hand-crafted scented candles, soaps, sublime hand-creams and bath products.

We also stock a range of products from the Kooroomba Kitchen in line with our ‘farm to plate’ philosophy. Highlights are local honey, honey mustard lavender dressing, tomato apple ginger jam, and bush tomato and capsicum chutney.
