Discover Millennium Esplanade- a picturesque parkland fringed by golden sands and caressed by the Coral Sea.

Millennium Esplanade and the Tannum Sands beach have long been a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike, offering the perfect spot to unwind or get active, to the soothing soundtrack of the ocean rhythm.

This tidy and well-maintained foreshore precinct offers something for everyone. Lay out a towel and soak in the warm sunshine along the Tannum Sands shoreline, or retreat to the cool refuge of undercover pavilions dotted along the adjoining esplanade – the perfect place to enjoy social gatherings with family or friends. A series of relatively flat pedestrian pathways wind through the parkland, perfect for summer strolls or cruising around on bikes or scooters. There’s a well-equipped playground for the kids, complete with a flying fox and accessible swing. And for those who need a little more room to move, there’s plenty of green space to kick a footy while you sizzle your steak on the free gas barbecues.

To the northern end of the esplanade you’ll find Tannum Sands Beach and the Tannum Sands Surf Lifesaving Club. One wall of the clubhouse is adorned with a vibrant, hand-drawn mural titled ‘Tides of Change’ by local artists Katrina Elliott and Jarrod Beezley. This collaborative work has a local beach theme and represents the rich history of the Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club. It is one of several locally produced public artworks that make up the Boyne Tannum Turtleway Artscape, which extends along both sides of the beautiful Boyne River. The Surf Life Saving Club is open to the public on weekends for meals and snacks, and the beach is patrolled during the warmer months from September to May.

With so much to offer, its little wonder this area has been attracting visitors for over 50 years!

    Accessibility

Millennium Esplanade and Tannum Sands beach is located approximately 25 kilometres (or less than a half hour drive) south of Gladstone CBD on the central Queensland coast. To arrive by public transport, catch the CDC Gladstone Route 510 bus from Stockland Shopping Centre in West Gladstone towards Tannum Sands and disembark at Hampton Drive near Tannum Sands Road hail’n’ride, a journey of around 50 minutes. From here it’s just under a one kilometre walk to the esplanade. Dedicated accessible parking bays are available at the esplanade, and accessible toilets are centrally located between the barbecue area and children’s playground.

Service dogs are of course welcome at the esplanade and beach. However, handlers should note that domestic dogs on leash may also be present in the area. There are pedestrian crossings which give access to the esplanade, and concrete turtle-shaped sculptures along the roadway serve as traffic calming devices, slowing traffic flow in the vicinity.

The children’s playground at Millennium Esplanade also features a ‘liberty swing’ making it accessible for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. Please note that the Surf Life Saving Club at Tannum Sands has stair access and is presently not accessible for wheelchair users.
