Ever dreamed of an up-close encounter with adorable alpacas? No prob-llamas! At Mountview Alpaca Farm, there’s a cuddly crew eager to meet you!

The property is idyllically positioned amidst the lush, landscaped grounds of O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyard. Whether you’re looking for a fun-filled day with the family or friends, romantic getaway or venue for your next function, the team at Mountview Alpaca Farm are here to help. With cuddly and fluffy friends to meet, and an adjoining cellar door, this stunning property offers a delightful mix of experiences, giving everyone an opportunity to rediscover the simple pleasures in life.

Why not take a leisurely wander with one of these adorable animals? Meander with your newfound friend through an open grassy paddock called the grazing area, which lies along the banks of the babbling Canungra Creek. Feel the soft, silky fleece of your alpaca, and their gentle nuzzle as they sneak treats from your hand. For the ultimate fusion of food and fun, combine your alpaca experience with a Devonshire tea, pizza or wine-tasting on the sun-drenched deck of the vineyard’s historic homestead. Or order a gourmet picnic hamper and chill out at picnic tables or on blankets, beneath the branches of magnificent silky oaks.

During your experience, please remember that Alpacas are livestock animals, and walking with you through the green pastures of the vineyard is like wandering around an all-you-can-eat buffet. They will stop, graze and can be stubborn (like a kid in a candy store). So, take your time, have fun, and enjoy each other’s company. Oh, and don’t forget to grab some selfies with these utterly cute creatures.

    Adorable Alpacas

There are approximately 80 adorable alpacas in the Mountview Alpaca Farm family. Here’s a few fun facts you may not know about these paca-tude filled alpacas.

Rare and exotic, alpacas originate from the Andes Mountains of South America, where they’ve been treasured for their luxurious fine fibre production for over 6,000 years. Alpacas have a softer coat and are much smaller in stature than llamas, but otherwise appear quite similar, with shaggy necks, camel-like faces and long ears. Generally gentle and kind in nature, their large, expressive eyes seem to reflect both a fathomless wisdom and endearing childlike curiosity.

Alpacas are true fashionistas, proudly parading in fine fleecy coats in 22 different colours, from shades of white, fawn, and brown to greys and blacks. Some even take it up another notch, with spots and stylish highlights. In fact, alpacas are the most colour diverse fibre producing animals in the world!

The soft fibres of their fleeces can be woven into fine fabrics, which are softer than cashmere and warmer than wool. Each adult alpaca can produce up to 3 or 4 kilograms of fine fleece each year, referred to by Inca civilizations as ‘the fibre of the Gods’. Shearing occurs once a year. Like any self-respecting trend-setter, each animal receives a stylish summer haircut, such as the ‘bobble head’, ‘mullet’ or ‘messy fringe’. In the winter months their coats grow thick and fluffy. This means they can strut their stuff and rock their locks in the summer, and give cosy cuddles in cooler weather.

    Meet The Fluffy Team

Alpacas are a curious bunch – each with their own unique style and personality. Let’s meet just a few of the friendly faces that call Mountview Alpaca Farm home.

Meet Ernie, a cream-colored, mid-sized alpaca, who absolutely adores cuddles. You'll often find Ernie humming away contentedly as he munches on his food gently using his lips.

Domino is up next, with a fluffy head that feels like a cloud. Sporting a chocolate brown coat with a white moustache above her lip and a patch of white under her chin, Domino has a unique way of eating—she breathes into her food, playfully blowing it all away.

Bluey is our big, cuddly boy with a stunning grey coat. He's a gentle eater and isn't shy about giving little kisses while enjoying his meals.

Frankie is the Zen alpaca who's phased by nothing. Extremely sweet but equally lazy, Frankie loves sunbathing all day long. Plus, he's a fan of dressing up and enjoys eating at a leisurely pace.

Here comes Pablo, rocking a super stylish mullet and always up for a chat. With a jet-black coat, he'll

give you a gentle nudge when he wants food. Watch out; he can be quite demanding!

Pixie, our cream-colored baby, is a friendly little gal who always has a smile on her face. She's incredibly gentle and ticklish while eating.

Now, we have Nacho, our tall and slim supermodel alpaca. If there were a Vogue for alpacas, Nacho would be the top pick! She's sometimes aggressive and uses her teeth to eat.

Finally, meet Popcorn, the little cutie with two caramel spots on her back. She's full of sass but sweet on the inside, and she chomps up all her food in one go, earning the nickname "Pocket Rocket."

    Alpaca Farm Rules

Alpacas are part of the Mountview family, so there’s a few rules to ensure the safety of animals and guests, so everyone has the best possible time. Here’s the lowdown.

Do not run with an alpaca. You must remain at a calm walk at all times and do not allow children to run around the animals.

Use a long lead when walking alpacas. Hold the middle of the rope and use a gentle continuous pull to get them moving. Don’t tug or yank the rope. If they lay down, or stop, try walking them in the opposite direction to get them moving again.

When patting or taking pictures with alpacas, use a short lead. Hold the lead up close to the halter for photos.

When feeding alpacas, place the food on your flat hand, and do not feed them out of the bag. Save some food to entice them home to the pen at the end of your session.

Adults must be securely holding the lead rope at all times, unless told otherwise by a staff member. If your young child would like to participate, please ask for a second lead rope.

Only pat and touch the neck and shoulders of the animals. Avoid walking behind the alpaca or touching the back end near the tail, as they can kick if annoyed or scared. Also, avoid patting their head as they may spit.

Please be considerate of other customers by returning your alpaca on time. Start making your way back to the pen five minutes prior to your finishing time. If you need any assistance, a staff member is available to help.

By participating in the alpaca experiences, you are agreeing to abide by Mountview Alpaca Farm’s rules and guidelines. Failure to do so may result in the termination of your alpaca session without refund.
