Great Sandy National Park
Perched on the edge of the Cooloola Recreation Area of the Great Sandy National Park, Noosa North Shore Retreat offers unparallelled opportunities for immersion in the splendour of nature.
The Cooloola Great Walk commences right at the retreat, offering avid hikers and casual wanderers an insight into the magnificent natural wonders of the Great Sandy National Park – consisting of over two thousand square kilometres of protected paradise. The challenging and highly rewarding Cooloola Great Walk is a multi-day hike extending 102 kilometres one way, traversing massive sand hills, hidden rainforests and fields ablaze with blooming wildflowers. Those looking for something less strenuous can take a leisurely stroll along the Walk’s early sections, to experience a taste of the park’s abundant natural beauty. Please contact the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service for permits or see our friendly staff at reception to book on your behalf.
If you have access to a four-wheel-drive vehicle, pick up a beach permit and head north from the retreat on a sixty-kilometre-long stretch of sandy highway. Call in at Double Island Point for a short hike to a historic lighthouse, to learn some history and take in the breathtaking panoramic views over the ocean, where dolphins often play just offshore. Take a dip in the natural beachfront lagoon, or dive into the white-capped waves. Time the tides right and continue north past the towering, coloured sand cliffs of Rainbow Beach, to Inskip Point, where you can catch the barge to the world’s largest sand island. Fraser Island (traditionally known as K’Gari) is steeped in history and adventure, and is heaven for four-wheel-driving enthusiasts.
If you’re after something a little more refined, Noosa is just a short ferry ride away, with its boutique shopping, fine dining and sophisticated style.
Noosa North Shore Retreat is your ideal escape for relaxation and adventure in the heart of natural paradise!
