Accessibility

The Bass Coast Shire and Phillip Island in particular have made tremendous efforts to make this destination and its attractions accessible to everyone.

There are several accessible toilets on the island, including at Cape Woolamai Surf Beach, Forrest Caves, Rhyll and Cowes Beach. Changing Places toilets are located at Smiths Beach, Phillip Island Health Hub, Penguin Parade Visitor Centre, Cowes Transit Centre, Wonthaggi's Apex Park, Guide Park and Berninneit Cultural Centre.

Mobi-Chair® floating beach wheelchairs are available for complimentary loan from Phillip Island Information Centre, Newhaven, and Berninneit, Cowes. Woolamai Surf Beach, Cowes Beach and Smiths Beach are all accessible via ramp and are beach-wheelchair-friendly.

The Disabled Surfers Association (DSA) of Australia runs two all-abilities surfing events at Smiths Beach, one in February and one in March. DSA events guarantee you will come away with a massive smile on your dial – whether you are a participant, volunteer or carer! All events are overseen by branch committee members who nominate beach marshals, team leaders and sign-in teams to ensure that the days run smoothly and safely and that all participants get a fun surf experience and leave the beach happy.
