    Spend the Weekend at Redcliffe

Redcliffe is situated on the land of the Gubbi Gubbi people, but after first being visited by Matthew Flinders in 1799, it later became Queensland’s first colony in 1824. Redcliffe has actually been a seaside resort town since the 1880s and has since blossomed into a popular beach holiday destination without losing its local identity. One of the town’s main claims to fame is that the Gibb family called it home for a time and the Bee Gees staged their first ever public performance at the Redcliffe Speedway in 1959. Indeed, as Barry Gibb wrote, “We met Brisbane's leading DJ and racing car driver Bill Gates, who suggested we call ourselves the BGs and even played our songs on his radio show…. hence Redcliffe became the birthplace of the Bee Gees.” You can find a bronze statue of the band at the end of Bee Gees Way.

Perfect for family holidays, Redcliffe offers safe beaches and accommodation options to suit every budget. The area’s sun-drenched beaches and dog-friendly foreshore parklands provide plenty of opportunities to either relax or get active, with trails including the Moreton Bay Cycleway, which is part of 150 kilometres of connected cycle paths. Key swimming spots include Scarborough Beach, Queens Beach, Settlement Cove Lagoon, Redcliffe Beach, Suttons Beach and Margate Beach. Each offers a unique experience, from calm waters ideal for families to scenic trails perfect for a leisurely walk or a workout. The laid-back atmosphere of Redcliffe makes it an ideal retreat for those seeking relaxation and fun.

Fishers can throw in a line off historic Redcliffe Jetty, Hornibrook Bridge or Scarborough Marina, but if you want to get out onto the water you can hire a paddle board or kayak to explore Moreton Bay. And, if you visit during migration season, which runs from June through October, you can even go whale watching. If art is your thing, Redcliffe Art Gallery hosts regularly changing exhibitions and artist-led workshops.

Indulge yourself in trendy sidewalk cafes and restaurants along the picturesque beachfront esplanades, where you can enjoy a leisurely meal with beautiful ocean views. The local retail scene features a mix of unique and locally operated stores offering everything from fashion to souvenirs. For entertainment, Redcliffe boasts a bustling events calendar, thriving nightlife, and popular Sunday markets, ensuring there’s always something exciting to explore no matter what your taste.
