Accessibility Information
We are conveniently located just a few minutes’ walk from the Reef Fleet terminal, the Cairns Convention Centre and the lively Cairns Esplanade. You can access the complex from either our Wharf Street or Abbott Street entrances with both offering wheelchair ramp access and automated doors.
Our car parks have ample wheelchair-accessible parking spaces, which are all conveniently placed close to lifts to the foyer. The various entrances, including the hotel lobby, are all equipped with ramps to facilitate access for guests with mobility limitations. Lifts from the carpark take guests directly to both the hotel lobby and the casino.
There’s a ramp at the main hotel entrance and a concierge is stationed there to open the doors to the hotel lobby. There is automatic door access to the main casino lobby at two points, one at the porte-cochère on Wharf Street and one on Abbott Street. Valet parking is available for hotel guests.
Our hotel reception check-in is positioned at a seated level for the comfort of all our guests, but is particularly welcoming to wheelchair users and those who may find it difficult to stand for long periods. Coming from the car park, the lift opens into a small lift lobby that then opens into reception. The flooring in the lobby area is a mixture of tiles and carpet. There is a ramp down from the Merchant cafe to the hotel lobby and another ramp to the casino. The lobby is flooded with natural light during the day and well lit in the evening.
There is an accessible bathroom in the hotel lobby, another on level 2 and one on level 4, where the pool is located.
None of the betting counters for Keno/TAB/Cashiers are currently designed for wheelchair users. There is a limited number of slant-top gaming machines with gaming button panels and screens that are lower to ground level and better suited for wheelchair users. Casino staff are limited in the ways they can assist disabled patrons – for example, they cannot insert notes or make game or denomination selections for the patrons etc – but they are able to move gaming stools and other obstacles to enable them to access machines. Patrons with disability who attend with their support worker are welcome to use regular-height gaming machines with their support worker’s assistance.
The venue’s conference and events rooms are easily accessible via lifts, and a platform lift is available for wheelchair users to access the elevated stages.
There are three accessible hotel rooms, all of which are premium king deluxe rooms overlooking Trinity Inlet, with features including wider bathroom doors, lever tap handles, roll-in showers with grab bars and fixed, fold-down seats. Other enhancements to ease accessibility include visual and audible alarms and caption-enabled TVs. Guests with access needs are encouraged to discuss their requirements in the case of emergency when booking or checking in as the hotel has established procedures.
