  • Welcome to Splitters Farm

Splitters Farm is a 160-acre paradise that blends the rural charm of a working cattle farm and animal sanctuary with the region’s natural beauty. Surrounded by 100 acres of lush tropical bushland and bordered by the placid waters of Splitters Creek, Splitters Farm was originally established in 2017 as a sanctuary for rescued farm animals. It has since blossomed into a haven for both wildlife and visitors alike.

Many of the animals here found refuge after enduring hardship, particularly during the devastating drought that began in 2013 and placed unbearable strain on local farmers. Today, alongside these rescued farmyard friends, the farm is home to native Australian wildlife, including wallabies, platypus, snapping turtle, barramundi and even the rare prehistoric lungfish. Bird-watchers will be thrilled to learn that over 150 species of Australian birds have been documented on the property.

We invite guests to reconnect with the simpler joys of life, with opportunities to feed some of the 400-odd rescue animals, collect eggs and share stories while making damper around a campfire – reliving the magic of childhood while creating new memories. With accommodation ranging from premium Eco Safari Tents to family-friendly camping spots, overnight guests of all stripes can enjoy a comfortable overnight stay and breathtaking views of the creek and dam.

Just a 15-minute drive from Bundaberg, a self-guided tour of Splitters Farm makes an ideal day out, one infused with the spirit of play, and activities that immerse you in the natural beauty and workings of a real farm. Whether basking in sunshine and simply breathing in fresh air or embracing the earthy pleasure of getting your hands dirty, Splitters Farm is the perfect destination to explore and unwind.

Our Story: The Heart behind Splitters Farm

In mid-2017, Ashley and Carly Clark turned their lifelong dream into reality when they purchased Splitters Farm. As parents to five children, their vision was to provide a rural upbringing that fostered connection with nature, animals and the land.

The journey to owning a farm began in an unexpected way – during a garage sale at their Bundaberg home, when an offer on their property sparked the idea of buying farmland. What they purchased was far from idyllic: a 160-acre dumping ground in the middle of a drought. Undeterred, they rolled up their sleeves, fixed the fences and soon found themselves offering sanctuary to rescue animals. Many of these animals came from farmers forced to downsize due to the relentless drought, and while their original goal was to establish a cattle farm, Splitters Farm began life as a refuge for animals in need.

By late 2019, Carly started running farm tours to help cover the costs of caring for their growing animal family. Recognising the potential to inspire and educate visitors, the couple set out to create a farm stay experience. In December 2020, the couple started offering accommodation at their farm, creating more than 50 powered campsites and later adding eight deluxe glamping tents to enhance the experience.

Carly and Ashley believe deeply that there’s more to a farm visit than just feeding baby animals. Their aim is to involve and educate guests, whether it’s seeing babies feed naturally in a paddock, learning about sustainable farming practices or witnessing the birth of a calf. Every visit is an opportunity for guests to connect with the rhythms of farm life – whether branding cattle, candling eggs or simply letting the transformative beauty of the land work its magic.

    Our Animals

    Camels

Meet Alice and Loco, our friendly “golden girls” rescued from Elbow Valley. These affectionate camels love cuddles and are known for their playful personalities. Keep an eye out for their curious glances and enjoy a moment with these gentle giants – but be warned, camel breath comes with the territory!

Peacocks – or Is That Peafowl?

Our stunning peafowl add a splash of colour and charm to the farm. Watch as the males, or peacocks, fan out their shimmering tail feathers in a dazzling display – a true highlight for visitors of all ages. These vain birds are also known for admiring their reflections in shiny surfaces, so don’t be surprised if one stops by your car for a closer look!

    Horses and Ponies

Splitters Farm is home to nine magnificent horses and ponies, each with their own unique personality and story. These intelligent and gentle animals are a joy to care for, but they require significant effort and resources to ensure their health and well-being. When we welcome a new horse, the initial costs – for vaccinations, microchipping, worming and health checks – are significant. Ongoing care includes regular pedicures and careful attention to diet, as horses can become very sick if they eat the wrong foods.

Horses are deeply affected by drought: consuming four to six times as much as a cow places a tremendous strain on resources during tough times. Many farmers, struggling to preserve what grass or crops they have left, are forced to rehome their horses. At Splitters Farm, we’re proud to provide these animals with a safe and loving environment where they can continue to thrive.

    Goats

Our goats are the life of the party at Splitters Farm – sociable, cheeky and always up to mischief! These playful characters are visitor favourites, known for their curiosity and tendency to nibble on anything they can find (including the clothes on your back if you’re not careful!).

Highly social and full of personality, our goats love attention and make for some of the best photo opportunities on the farm. Their playful antics and friendly nature make them a highlight for guests of all ages, bringing smiles and laughter to every visit.

Splitters Farm is also a forever home to sheep, male dairy calves, geese, ducks, chickens, turkeys and many more characters.

    Self-Guided Tour

Wander at your own pace from paddock to paddock on a self-guided walk and get up close and personal with some of our 400-odd lovely rescue animals and click away to your heart’s content for some of the cutest photos you will ever take. Your entry includes feed for the animals, making it easy to connect with the goats, sheep and camels. Morning tours offer the best feeding opportunities, but no matter when you visit, it’s a hands-on, family-friendly adventure that brings out the inner child in everyone.

Bookings are essential, and it’s important to arrive 10 minutes before your allocated session time for a safety briefing. Keep an eye on the weather to make sure you’re well-prepared for rain or shine. Once you finish your tour you are welcome to stay on to enjoy a picnic in our beautiful grounds. Day-trippers are welcome to use the electric barbecues for a fee. Picnics need to be booked 24 hours in advance so we can confirm any dietary needs.

A small additional fee will earn you the company of one of our friendly farm guides. You'll also get the opportunity to taste locally produced honey and macadamias, collect eggs, and learn more about the history of Splitters Farm and its animals.

    Food and Accommodation

Splitters Farm offers several accommodation options. At the top of the range are the two-bedroom deluxe safari glamping tents with full amenities including air conditioning, TV and DVD player, dishwasher and kitchen and paid laundry facilities. Our Retro “Glamper” Vans are also air-conditioned and equipped with air-conditioning and heating, outdoor settings, TV, fridge, microwave and coffee machine. Access to shared toilets, showers and the laundry room is available and guests are welcome to use the full kitchen at the Grazing Station Camp. Towels and linen are also included.

Your stay with both of these options includes a breakfast hamper on arrival and fresh bread or croissants delivered daily before 8 AM. Spend the evenings relaxing by your own private fire pit, with firewood included.

We offer both powered and unpowered grass sites that are suitable for RVs, campervans and tents. There’s access to drinking water on-site, toilets, showers, laundry room and a camp kitchen. Please confirm the size of your van, trailer or tent and how many vehicles you are bringing in our special requirements comments.

All accommodation bookings include self-guided farm access; however, you can book a guided tour for a more personalised experience.

Our picnic hampers are a popular and perfect addition to your visit to Splitters Farm. Throw down a rug under a tree or down by the picturesque Splitters Creek for a peaceful and delicious lunch. Vegan and vegetarian, as well as gluten- and lactose-free options are available. Our coffee and food van serves barista-made coffee and a small selection of food on weekends and school holidays from 8 AM to 12 noon. On Friday nights we show guests how to make damper, but this family activity is very popular so make sure to book in advance.

On busy Saturday nights, and occasionally during school holidays, we offer a Mexican fiesta or tempura-battered flathead fillets and chips from our Grazing Station Camp kitchen. Likewise, some weekends see us lighting up the oven for delicious wood-fired pizzas. Call ahead to find out whether we are offering food during your visit.
