During the winter months, experience the magic of getting up close and personal with migrating humpback whales on one of our epic, half-day whale-watching tours in the whale-watching capital of Australia. Marvel at the magnificence of these gentle giants as they frolic and play in this peaceful aquatic playground. It’s an incredible experience that’s sure to create life-long memories!

Or visit in summer to join us on a cruise to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed island of K’gari (formerly Fraser Island), where fun-filled adventures await on the sandy fringe of natural paradise. With a range of activities on offer, like kayaking, snorkelling, inflatable tube rides and beach activities, you can do as much or as little as you like. The day is on your terms.

Whalesong is proud to have achieved Advanced Ecotourism certification from Ecotourism Australia, reflecting our ongoing initiatives to adopt the highest environmental standards in all areas of our operation.

    Unforgettable Winter Whale-Watching Experiences

Join us for an unforgettable half-day adventure humpback whale-watching in the sheltered waters of Hervey Bay in Queensland’s spectacular Fraser Coast.

During the winter months from July to October, the Bay becomes a popular aquatic playground for these magnificent marine mammals during their winter northern migration up the Australian coastline. Hervey Bay is the only place on the East Coast, where the humpbacks stop for up to 2-3 weeks, to rest, play, mate and feed their young. It was declared a Whale Heritage Site in 2019 and remains the only such site in Australasia.

A Whalesong Whale-Watching Cruise is truly a bucket-list experience. Join us for a morning or afternoon cruising the bay in the company of these majestic animals. It will be hard to determine who’s having more fun during these unforgettable up-close encounters – you or the breaching, tail-slapping, frolicking whales! With our onboard hydrophone, you may even get the chance to hear them ‘sing’.

From 13 July to 13 October, we offer two whale-watching cruises daily, with 100 per cent guaranteed humpback whale sightings on all tours, or free repeat tours until you do. We provide live expert audio commentary to accompany your cruise, and are the only half-day whale watch boat tour in Hervey Bay to include meals, representing excellent value for money.

Our Extended Morning Cruise departs at 8am and includes five hours on the water, while our Afternoon and Sunset Cruise departs at 2pm and includes four to four-and-a-half hours exploring the bay. On both tours, you’ll have the unforgettable opportunity to observe humpback whales and other incredible marine life in their natural environment.

The Extended Morning Cruise includes morning tea and lunch, while afternoon tea and dinner are served during the second cruise of the day.

With wide viewing decks, low passenger numbers, courtesy bus transfers and a commitment to exceptional customer service, you’re sure to disembark with cherished lifetime memories after whale-watching with Whalesong Cruises!

    Summer Cruising – Fraser Coast

In warmer weather, get set for summer fun and relaxation aboard our K’gari (Fraser Island) Beach and Barbecue Cruise, or Hervey Bay Sunset Cruise.

Visit the remote west coast of K’Gari (formerly Fraser Island) for half a day exploring, adventuring or relaxing on your own terms. Dive into the action with a comprehensive offering of fun-filled activities including kayaking, swimming, snorkelling, beach activities and tube rides. Or venture ashore to explore the uncrowded coastline fringing the largest sand island in the world. On this unspoilt, untamed island paradise, your worries feel a world away, as you bask in the sunshine and splendour while lazing on the warm, golden sand. Back aboard the boat, you’ll be served a delicious and freshly prepared Aussie barbecue lunch, before setting out on your leisurely cruise back across the bay.

While the whales are away, a host of other aquatic animals play in the sheltered waters through which you’ll cruise. These may include our resident dolphins, turtles and dugongs, as well as an abundance of seabirds. Throughout the tour, our team will provide expert audio commentary about the marine life, surrounding area and local history, equipping you with insights that will enable you to fully appreciate your beautiful surrounds.

For the perfect way to enjoy golden hour out on the water, consider joining us for a Sunset Cruise. Glide peacefully through the pristine waters between Hervey Bay and K’Gari, while enjoying a complimentary drink on arrival, and a selection of delicious hot and cold canapes. Additional drinks are available for purchase from our fully licensed onboard bar. What a magical way to end the day!

Our office and boat departure point are located within the Great Sandy Straits Marina Terminal Building at 17 Buccaneer Drive, Urangan, Hervey Bay. We offer a courtesy bus transfer service from local accommodation in the Hervey Bay area, which can be organised at the time of booking. Unfortunately, this service is not wheelchair accessible. Accessibility

Here at Whalesong Cruises Hervey Bay, we want everyone to be able to experience an unforgettable time on the water, irrespective of any access needs. That's why our boat and operations were designed with accessibility in mind. Our goal is to deliver an accessible, inclusive and enjoyable experience for all.

The boat is boarded via an accessible ramp with assistance provided by our patient, respectful, kind and compassionate crew. Boat access is suitable for most guests, including those utilising motorised and conventional wheelchairs, wheelie walkers and parents with prams. The lower side and rear decks and main saloon area are all wheelchair accessible. If you will be travelling with a wheelchair, mobility aide or pram please advise our staff at the time of booking, as space is limited.

If you are unsteady on your feet and don’t have a wheelchair or walking aid, we have a courtesy wheelchair available in our office to get you down the ramp (which can be steep at low tide). One of our crew can also assist in ensuring your safe and anxiety free journey from the office to the boat, and then onto the boat itself.

Accessible bathroom facilities are also available onboard.

Registered assistance animals are welcome. We offer half price tickets to carers travelling with registered Companion Card holders and offer favourable rates for groups of 10 or more. For further details, please speak to our friendly team.

Given sufficient notice, we can cater for a range of dietary requirements such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten or dairy intolerances and allergies and religious beliefs.

Our exciting ‘Whales for Everyone’ program is another incredible initiative that’s breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity for all. By harnessing the power of innovation, we have developed a virtual reality whale watching experience to allow those who can’t venture out to sea the ability to experience the magic of whale watching. We are also welcoming eligible NDIS participants, accompanied by their carer or support person, to come aboard as ‘crew for a day’, and experience working in hospitality on a boat.

Comprehensive details about our accessibility offerings, including access maps and videos are available via our dedicated accessibility page link on whalesong.com.au. We also invite you to come familiarise yourself with the boat and its access. Please feel free to contact us to arrange a suitable time, or to discuss any questions or concerns you may have ahead of your cruise. Please email info@whalesong.com.au or phone (07) 4125 6222.
