  • Taste The Region

Meet the growers and taste the region at the multi-award winning Willunga Farmer’s Market.

This is South Australia’s first Farmer’s Market, and arguable one of the best in the state. Featuring over sixty stalls, the market proudly showcases the freshest, seasonal produce, hand-crafted goods and gourmet delights from the fertile soils and creative entrepreneurs of the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula. The market offers a smorgasbord of locally produced delights, ranging from fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables direct from the farm, to meats and seafoods, bakery, smallgoods, wine and ciders to name a few. Have a chat with the growers and makers behind the outstanding quality goods on offer, and gain insights into the unique stories behind their products. Stock up on the finest and freshest flavours the region has to offer, and feel good knowing your purchases are directly supporting the livelihoods of members of the local community.

Inhale the fresh country air and take in the aromas of freshly brewed coffee and farm-fresh produce, as you meander and taste your way around the market stalls. Or kick back and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, accompanied by the live music of buskers adding to the relaxed atmosphere.

The Farmer’s Market is held every Saturday – rain, hail, or shine – from 8am to 12 noon at the Willunga State High School. Check out the accessibility section for further details.

    A Story of Growth

From the seed of an innovative idea to a flourishing enterprise, the Willunga Farmer’s Market presents a celebrated success story in grassroots food tourism. The proposal to develop South Australia’s first farmer’s market in Willunga was initially proposed by Adelaide food legend, Zannie Flanagan, in 2001. The initiative was designed to provide a venue for small producers in the region to sell their finest and freshest produce direct to customers.

The dream became a reality when the first market day took place on a sunny Saturday in February 2002. Accompanied by the mutual enthusiasm of traders and the community, and the odd minor mishap (the breakfast barbecue burnt down!), the inaugural event was deemed highly successful, paving the way for the Grand Opening celebrations two weeks later.

The continued growth and success of the markets is largely due to its ongoing commitment to upholding its original values and vision – to support the production and sale of fresh, local and seasonal produce and promote sustainable food production practices in the surrounding Fleurieu region.

Today, the Willunga Farmer’s Market continues to consistently draw crowds and receive excellent ratings on travel review websites. Given its growing success, it’s easy to see why it’s won multiple prestigious industry accolades including recognition as an Outstanding Farmer’s Market at the delicious Produce Awards, and multiple wins in the Food Tourism category at the South Australian Tourism Awards.
